Kosgei Finishes 18th in 10,000 at NCAA Championships
June 12, 2009
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Lamar junior Samuel Kosgei finished in 18th place at the 10,000 meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Tack & Field Championships at the John McDonnell Field late Thursday night.
Kosgei completed the race in a time of 29:45.49. He was running near the front of the large chase pack for much of the first half of the race before moving to the middle part of that group.
Kosgei, a Kapchorwa, Uganda native, finished eighth in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March as he became Lamar's first-ever indoor all-America honoree. He picked up his first all-America honor in the fall in cross country when he notched a 37th place finish at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
Galen Rupp of Oregon won the race in a time of 28:21.45.
