Jan. 16, 2007 BEAUMONT - After winning multiple events at Saturday's Purple Tiger Indoor Track and Field Classic, Lamar's Clerc Koenck and Francis Kasagule were named Southland Conference Aeropostale Track and Field Athletes of the week. Kasagule and Koenck shared their honors with UT Arlington's Jared Connaughton and Sam Houston's Jennie Sewell as the SLC office named co-winners for the first week of the 2007 track season. Kasagule, a freshman from Gayhza, Uganda grabbed two first place finishes Saturday. He started his day by helping the Cardinals to a first place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:05.73 and completed the day with a title in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:13.93. His time set a new school record, besting Ian Mullen's 8:29.61, set in 1993, by 16 seconds. Koenck also grabbed two first place finishes on Saturday, doubling up in the same events as Kasagule. She started her day by helping the Lady Cardinals to a first place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:39.01 and completed her day with a title in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:45.99. Her time also broke the previous school record of 9:48.69 set by Renee Graham in last year's SLC championship meet. Kasagule, Koenck and the rest of the Lamar University track and field teams will be in action again on Friday when they run at the Leonard Hilton Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.
