FRISCO, Texas – On the heels of a second consecutive victory in the mile run, Lamar runner Joe Wade was named the Southland Conference’s Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Wade, a graduate student out of Isle of Wight in England, completed the race at the Howie Ryan Invitational & Multi’s in Houston with a time of 4:10.28 with an adjustment down to 4:07.13, making him the second-best individual performer in the event in school history.
“It’s a well-deserved honor for Joe,” head coach Trey Clark said. “He’s been a contributor to the program for years now, and he’s a very consistent performer for us. It’s always good to see individuals get honored by the conference.”
Earlier this season, Wade took home the mile title at the McNeese Invitational on January 18. He completed the event in a then-personal best time of 4:11.91, adjusted to 4:08.74.
The Cardinal men’s and women’s track teams will return to action on Friday at the Jeff Davis Invitational in Lake Charles, La.
