Feb. 2, 2006

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University track teams will head to Houston for the Houston Indoor Invitational, on Friday and Saturday at the Yeoman Field House on the campus of the University of Houston.

The Cardinals have competed in two indoor meets so far this season, opening the 2006 indoor season in Baton Rouge, La., running at the Purple Tiger Invitation at LSU, and at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville Ark. Several Cardinal athletes have had good performances this season, led by a pair of distance runners on the women's side.

Clerc Koenc grabbed a first place finish in the Mile run at LSU, and Renee Graham grabbed a first place finish in the 3,000 meter run. On the men's side, Danny Shaw had the best finish for a Lamar runner at LSU, finishing in third place in the 3,000 meter run, while Ewan Simpson was the top finisher at Arkansas, taking sixth place in the 1,000 meter run.

This weekends meet will feature the most Southland Conference competition Lamar has seen this year with Texas State, Northwestern State, Sam Houston, UT-Arlington, McNeese, Southeastern Louisiana and Stephen F Austin all competing at UH.
