The Lamar University men finished fourth, while the Lady Cardinals placed sixth at the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships that concluded Saturday.
In Saturday's women's competition, Lamar's Samantha Walkow won the mile run in a time of 5 minutes, 2.84 seconds. Lamar's Ashley Idunoba was second in the women's 200 meters in 24.74 seconds. Leslie Beard was fourth in the women's pole vault with an effort of 3.55 meters (11 feet, 7.75 inches). Taylor Cloy of the Lady Cardinals took seventh in the women's 3,000 meters in 10:10.51. Lamar's 4x400 relay unit of Elzbieta Gawron, Saschelle Slaughter, Wilika Williams and Carmen Gedling took sixth in 3:57.82.
In men's action, Lamar placed four in the top eight of the 3,000-meter run, led by Tom Wade, who won the race in 8:22.90. Lamar's Matt Johnsen was second in 8:26.36, Joe Wade was fifth in 8:32.53 and Ryan Creech took eighth in 8:35.13.
Joe Wade won the men's mile run in 4:08.85. Chris Smith took fourth for Lamar in the men's 800 meters in 1:54.38. Jamal Nash of the Cardinals claimed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.22 seconds.
UTSA won the men's team title with 134 points, with Lamar totaling 75 points for its fourth-place finish. Stephen F. Austin's 117.5 points were enough to win the women's championship. Lamar finished with 51 points.
