BEAUMONT - After winning the men's 1,500 meter run at the Texas Invitational, Lamar University freshman Francis Kasagule earned Southland Conference Aeropostale Track and Field Athlete of the week honors.

This is Kasagule's first outdoor athlete of the week honor, and his third overall athlete of the week selection of the 2007 season. He was named SLC indoor athlete of the week twice during the indoor season, first on January 16, and again on January 30.

A freshman from Gayhza, Uganda, Kasagule won the men's 1,500 meter run at the Texas Invitational with a time of 3:47.85, which is the fourth-best time in school history, and the fastest time recorded by a Southland Conference athlete this season.

Kasagule and the rest of the Lamar track and field teams will be in action again on Saturday when they run at the Bayou Classics in Houston.
