Wades place fourth, fifth at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - Lamar University's Joe Wade and Tom Wade placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Texas Relays over the weekend.

Joe Wade was timed in 8 minutes, 58.28 seconds, while Tom Wade was clocked in 9:01.40. Luis Orta of Kentucky won the event in 8:50.52.

The Wades also teamed with Jamal Nash and Chris Smith to place fifth in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:44.58, the second-fastest time in school history. The school record of 9:41.01 was set in 1980.

Nash was 37th in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.90.

Lamar's track teams are at the Leon Johnson Invitational at Northwestern State at 10 a.m. Friday.
