Kosgei is SLC Student-Athlete of the Year

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University senior Samuel Kosgei was named the Capital One Bank/Southland Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year the conference announced Monday. Kosgei, a senior from Kapchorwa, Uganda, has a 3.25 GPA as a health major and is a repeat recipient of this award. He is a two-time Southland indoor champion in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter. The Sebei Secondary School product accomplished the long-distance double for the second consecutive season. He set a meet record in the 5,000 with a time of 14 minutes, 16.73 seconds. He bettered his 2009 winning time by nearly 15 seconds. Kosgei owns the school and conference records in the event. "That's a great honor for Samuel and for our program," Lamar track coach Trey Clark said. "He's a tremendous representative for Lamar." LAMAR
