Lamar Track Set to Host 47th Annual Exxon/Mobil Ty Terrell Relays

BEAUMONT - The Lamar Cardinals Track and Field team along with Head Coach Trey Clark will be hosting the 47th Annual Exxon/Mobil Ty Terrell Relays on Thursday at the Ty Terrell track on the LU campus. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the men's and women's field events. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. starting with the men's and women's 4x100 meter relay. The day's final event will be the women's and men's mile relay at 3 p.m. Admission will be free to the public. A complete schedule of Thursday's events is listed below. In their last action before hosting the 47th annual Ty Terrell Relays on Thursday, the Lamar University track and field teams ran at the Texas Twilight at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin Texas on Saturday where they posted 22 season-best performances. The Lamar sprinters had their strongest performance of the year, led by Michael Gauthier who ran season-bests in the 100 meter dash and 00 meter dash. He ran to a third place finish in a time of 10.67 in the 100 meter dash and placed 21st in the 200 meter dash with a 21.96 performance. Stephen Boone grabbed an 18th place finish in the 200 in a time of 22.22 seconds and Daniel Wheaton also had a season-best performance in the 200 meter dash, running to a 23.86 finish. In the 400 meter dash Jerel Massenburge and Julius Kasule each sprinted to season-bests. Massenburge ran the quarter mile in 48.00 seconds, good for fourth place while Kasule finished in seventh place in a time of 48.42. The men's 4x400 relay team also had an impressive performance, running to a second place finish in a season-best time of 3:13.96.
In the men's 1,500 meter run Francis Kasagule continued his record setting season with a third place finish in the fast section in a new school record time of 3:46.76. Spencer Prudhomme also had his best performance of the year, turning in a time of 4:07.51 for a third place finish in the 1,500 regular division. In women's action the Lady Cardinals also had a fantastic day on the track as they posted 12 season-bests. The Lady Cardinals 4x400 relay team ran to a first place finish in a time of 3:46.18, which is the second-fastest time in the Southland Conference this year. Sahara Abraham ran to a sixth place finish in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.24 seconds. She also had her best performance in the 200 meter dash with a 15th place finish in a time of 25.82 seconds. In the 400 meter dash Toni Sylvester turned in a seconds place performance in 54.92 seconds, her fastest and the fourth fastest time in the Southland Conference this year. Brittany Pollard dashed to a fifth place finish in the quarter, clocking a time of 56.66, while Ashley Smith ran a season-best 58.72, good for 10th place. Porshe Williams and Kacie Jacobson also ran season-bests, clocking a 1:02.83 and a 1:07.83 respectively. The LU hurdlers had their best showing of the year with a trio of season-bests int eh 100 hurdles and a pair of bests in the 400 hurdles. Jessika Johnson clocked the second-fastest time in the SLC this season in the 100 hurdles with a 13.98 seconds which was good for sixth place. Megan Bibbs and Adrianne Johnson also posted season-bests with times of 14.72 and 14.94 respectively. In the 400 hurdles Alexandra Mayfield ran the SLC's third fastest time of the year with a 1:02.31. Angel Basset also had her best performance of the year, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:04.43. Clerc Koenck also had another solid day on the track, running to a second place finish in the 1,500 meter run fast section. She crossed the line in a time of 4:28.03.
