FRISCO – Joe Wade has made a home for himself atop the Southland Conference performance lists over the years, and this past weekend was no different as the graduate student recorded a time of 8:56.41 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to hold on to the top spot in the league, earning Southland Athlete of the Week in the process.
Wade, who finished second in the elite flight at the 55th annual Mt. SAC Relays, is competing in his final season for the Cardinals, and this marks the second time he’s earned such an honor this year after taking it home once during indoor season. He’s currently the defending conference champion in the steeplechase, earning All-America honorable mention a year ago, and he came into outdoor season after winning a second consecutive SLC title in the mile run.
The Englishman out of the Isle of Wight was named SLC Indoor Student-Athlete of the Year earlier this month.
