BEAUMONT - The Lamar men's and women's track teams are hitting the home stretch for the 2013 outdoor season, and Saturday's Bobcat Classic offers the final opportunity for a tune-up prior to next month's Southland Conference Championships.

Ashley Idunoba and Zach Hicks, each expected to play a major role in the SLC meet, are set to lead the sprints group. Idunoba is the two-time defending conference champ in the 200 meter dash, and Hicks, a freshman out of Diana, ranks fifth in the conference in the event. Each are slated to run in both the 100 and 200 as well as the 4x100.

Hicks will be joined in sprints by Jonathan Edwards, Trevon Davis and Ronnie Whitty on the men's side. For the women, Shakevia Fleeks, Elzbieta Gawron, Chasity Peters, Sarah Shim, Saschelle Slaughter and Sydney Wandix are scheduled to compete.

Regular 800 competitors Idara Effiong, TaMar Hicks and Kim Campbell will have some company this weekend as Becky Gough will run for the women and Sam Stabler is set to join the party for the men.

Both will also run in the 1,500, and the duo of Ryan Creech and Joe Wade will join Stabler for the men.

Wade and Stabler rank first and second in the SLC, respectively, in the 5,000, and the trio of Creech, Ash Harrell and Matt Johnsen will look to join them at the the top of the performance list. Creech, with a time of 14:41.73, currently sits fifth.

Claire Miles rounds out the distance performers, and she will run in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Le'Trey Burton and Wesley Williams will race in the hurdles.

The trio of Erin Brown, Beatrice Douglas and Carissa Hill will lead the women's jumps group on the weekend. All three are scheduled to compete in the long jump, and Hill is coming off a title-winning performance in the event a week ago at the J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight Meet.

Brown will also participate in the triple jump.

On the men's side, Robert Badillo will compete in the triple jump and both Johnathon Reece and Austin Powell are set for the high jump.

Leslie Beard, the school record holder for the women, will join both Jared Parker and Cody Williams in the pole vault, and thrower Denisha Nichols will participate in the discus.
