PALO ALTO, Calif. - Lamar University's Tom Wade was the top collegiate finisher in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational hosted by Stanford University on Sunday.

Wade won his section in 8 minutes, 43.26 seconds, more than 3 seconds ahead of runner-up Tabor Stevens of Adams State. Wade's time was a personal best and puts him fifth on Lamar's all-time list. The fastest overall time was turned in by Kyle Alcorn, who won his section in 8:26.66 while representing Nike.

Lamar's Chris Smith won his section of the men's 800 meters in 1:51.29, while Lamar's Sam Stabler placed fifth in his section in the men's 3,000 meters in 3:48.97.

In the women's competition, Lamar's Becky Gough placed 10th in her section of the 1,500 meters in 4:36.27. LU's Samantha Walkow was 12th in her section of the women's 5,000 meters in 17:28.52.

The Lamar track teams return to action at the Sam Houston State Invitational on Friday.
