STANFORD, Calif. - Lamar's Samuel Kosgei smashed his own school and Southland Conference record for the men's 10,000 meters at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational over the weekend at Stanford University.

Kosgei finished third against an international field in a time of 28 minutes, 32.62 seconds easily breaking his previous standard of 28:45.24.

Meanwhile, Lamar's Joonas Harjamaki posted the second fastest time in Southland Conference history and the third fastest time ever at Lamar for the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a clocking of 8:39.22 as he finished 10th. Harjamaki was second among collegiate runners in the race.

Lamar will be idle until the Southland Conference Championships set for May 14-16 in Arlington, Texas.
