Cardinals Complete Day Two at SLC Championships

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After a successful start to the 2009 Southland Conference outdoor championships at Fletcher Garner Track at Homer Bryce Stadium on the campus of Stephen F. Austin on Friday night, the Lamar University men's and women's track and field teams took to the track for day two.

On Friday night Drew Bean was the first Cardinals athlete to earn all conference honors, placing third in the men's 10,000 meter run. He posted a time of 31:26.00 to take the bronze, while crossing the line as the third-fastest 10K runner in school history.

In the women's 10,000 Taylor Cloy scored points for the Lady Cards with a seventh place finish. She crossed the line in a time of 38:36.43, which ranks just outside of the top five all time on school history.

In Saturday's field action, Craig Bailey registered a sixth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 22-9 feet.

On the track, four individuals advanced to Sunday's finals with solid semifinal performances.

Bob Ahimbisibwe recorded a 4:02.60 in heat one of the 1,500 meter run, while Ewan Simpson advanced the finals with a 4:02.96 performance.

In the women's 100 meter hurdles LU sent two runners to the finals for the second straight year. Megan Bibbs and Adrianne Johnson both clocked times of 14.56 seconds to make their way to Sunday's final.

Sunday's action will get under way a 5:05 p.m. with the running of the women's 4x100 meter relay.
