Lamar wraps up first day at NCAA Regionals

AUSTIN, Texas - Four members of the Lamar University track and field teams failed to advance past the first round of their events at the NCAA West Regionals at the University of Texas on Thursday.

Lamar's Sam Stabler placed 43rd in the men's 1,500 meters in a time of 4 minutes, 4.36 seconds. LU's Andy Fontenot was 41st overall in the men's long jump with an effort of 7.05 meters (23 feet, 1.75 inches).

Ashley Idunoba was 45th in the women's 100 meters in 11.92 seconds. Idunoba has another chance to advance on Friday as she competes in the women's 200 meters.

Beatrice Douglas had Lamar's best finish of the day, placing in a tie for 30th in the women's long jump at 5.89 meters (19-4).

In addition to Idunoba's entry in the women's 200 meters, Lamar will be represented in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday by Tom Wade and twin brother Joe Wade. Tom Wade is the No. 4 seed in the event.
