Kosgei Takes Aim At NCAA Outdoor Championships Thursday

June 10, 2009

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Lamar junior distance specialist Samuel Kosgei will participate in the 10,000 meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the John McDonnell Field late Thursday night.

Kosgei brings a seed time of 28:45.24 into the race, which he set at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Stanford, Calif. on May 2. His time, which is the fastest in Lamar history and the second-fastest all-time in Southland Conference annals, is seeded 13th among the 26-person field.

The race will be the final event on Thursday and is scheduled to get underway at 9:45 p.m. Central time. Live video will be offered for free by the NCAA with a link at LamarCardinals.com.

Kosgei, a Kapchorwa, Uganda native, finished eighth in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March as he became Lamar's first-ever indoor all-America honoree.

He picked up his first all-America honor in the fall in cross country when he notched a 37th place finish at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
