BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's Tom Wade and Joe Wade were second-team Academic All-America selections for men's track & field/cross country, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today.

The twins, natives of Isle of Wight, England, both graduated from Lamar with a perfect 4.0 GPA in kinesiology. Tom Wade earned second-team All-America in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after placing 12th at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Joe Wade was an honorable mention in the steeplechase.

In addition, Tom Wade was the Southland Conference Student of the Year for men's outdoor track. This past academic year, he won the Southland Conference title in the outdoor 1,500 meters and indoor 3,000 meters. He earned all-conference honors in cross country after placing fourth at the Southland meet as Lamar won its sixth consecutive team crown.

Joe Wade joined his brother as members of the Southland Conference's All-Academic team for men's cross country/track. This past year, he won the Southland Conference championship in the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase and the indoor mile. He was fourth in the indoor 3,000 meters at the conference meet and earned all-conference accolades in cross country after placing seventh at the Southland meet.

"I'm very happy for both Tom and Joe," Lamar cross country and track coach Trey Clark said. "They've obviously been tremendously successful in academics as well as athletics. They are both deserving of this honor."

The Wades will compete in the steeplechase at the British Olympic trials this week along with Lamar teammates Sam Stabler and Chris Smith.

The Wades are the first Academic All-America selections from Lamar since Jordan Foster earned second-team honors for baseball in 2004.
