The Lamar University men's and women's cross country team had strong showings at the 22nd annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota at the UM Les Bolstad Golf Course., placing 12th and 13th respectively.
Renee Graham and Clerc Koenck led the way for the Lady Cardinals, both finishing in the top 20 out of 257 runners. Graham continued her strong season with a 13th place finish, running the six kilometer course in a time of 21:48.8m 22 second and 20 positions better than her 2007 finish. Koenck grabbed 19th place in a time of 21:57.6, 36 seconds and 32 spots better than a year ago.
Rachel Kingsford was the third finisher for Lamar, posting a time of 23:16.1 for 84th place, while Stacey Monteau finished 151st in a time of 24:15.8. Karesse Lethermon finished 193rd for Lamar, posting a time of 25:01.4, Merci Bungei was 202nd in a time of 25:17.8 and Andrea Smith was 228th in a time of 26:01.3.
As a team the Lady Cardinals were 13th out of 26 teams with a team score of 384. The meet winner was Minnesota who totaled 97 points.
On the men's side, Francis Kasagule and Samuel Kosgei led the way for the Cardinals, who posted a team score of 314 for a 12th place finish out of 23 teams. Kasagule ran the eight kilometer course in a time of 24:52.7 for 15th place, while Kosgei finished 27th in a time of 25:08.8.
Frank Bwambale posted a 67th place finish with a time of 25:50.6, Danny Shaw was 104th in 26:26.6 and Randy Becker finished 120th in a time of 26:42.6. Aaron Brannen logged a 151st finish in a time of 27:14.7 and Ewan Simpson rounded out the LU competitors with a 173rd place finish in a time of 27:50.4.
The Lamar cross country teams will now take a couple of weeks off before running at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. on October 13.
