Led by Matt Johnsen's ninth-place finish, the Lamar University men's cross country team placed third at the NCAA South Central Regionals on Saturday.
With his finish, Johnsen, the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, earned a spot in the NCAA Championships, set for Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. Johnsen covered the 10-kilometer course in 30 minutes, 30.6 seconds.
As a team, the Cardinals had 102 points to finish behind Arkansas (30) and Texas (66) in the 15-team field.
Individually, Lamar had three runners in the top 20. Bob Ahimbisibwe was 13th in 30:46.0 and Tallam Kipruto placed 17th in 30:53.0.
