Three Cardinals Harriers Named Academic All Conference

BEAUMONT - Frank Bwambale, Samuel Kosgei and Ewan Simpson were named to the Southland Conference track and cross country all academic team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Bwambale, who posted a 3.19 GPA in general studies/health, was an automatic selection to the first team by virtue of his all conference performance in cross country. The senior from Nakifuma, Uganda ran to an eighth place finish at the SLC championship meet, earning his third straight all conference honor. He earned all conference honors during the indoor track season, as a member of the distance medley relay team that won its third straight SLC title. Kosgei was also an automatic selection to the first team after putting together a dominant year throughout cross country and both track seasons. The Kapchorwa, Uganda native, who has a 3.23 GPA in Health won the conference championship in cross country, the indoor 3,000, the indoor 5,000 and the outdoor 5,000 while earning All American honors in cross country and in the indoor 5,000 meter run. He was also named the student-athlete of the year for both the cross country and indoor track and field seasons. Simpson, a senior from Kincardine, Scotland, was voted in as a member of the second team after posting a 3.42 GPA in exercise science. The academic all conference selection caps a career which saw him earn all conference honors two times, including winning the SLC title in the indoor 800 meter run in 2008. This is the second time for both Kosgei and Simpson to earn academic all conference honors in their career, both were named to the 2008 team.
