Three Lamar University student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference 2011 All-Academic Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams.
Taylor Cloy and Sam Walkow were honored on the women's side, while Matt Johnsen earned honors on the men's team.
Cloy, a junior from Magnolia, Texas, has a 3.45 grade-point average in nursing. Cloy won the 5,000 meters at the Southland Conference Indoor Track Championships in a time of 17 minutes, 16.92 seconds this past season. She was third at the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships and fourth in the 3,000 meters at the SLC Indoor Championships and in the 10,000 meters at the SLC Outdoor Championships.
Walkow, a sophomore from Surrey, British Columbia, has a 3.77 GPA in psychology. Walkow won the 3,000 meters at the Southland Conference Indoor Track Championships in 9:57.25. She was third in the 1,500 meters at the SLC Indoor Championships and fourth in the 5,000 meters at the SLC outdoor meet.
Johnsen, a sophomore from Broulee, Australia, has a 3.20 GPA in kinesiology. Johnsen helped lead Lamar to the Southland Conference men's cross country championship, as he placed third in a time of 24:50.1 for 8 kilometers at the SLC meet. He was ninth at the NCAA Regionals, advancing to the NCAA Championships. During the indoor track season, he placed sixth in the 5,000 meters at the Southland Conference Championships.
