Cardinal Cross Country Grabs Weekly Honors from Southland Conference

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University swept the first Aeropostale athlete of the week honors for the 2005 cross country season, as Danny Shaw and Jacqueline John each won their respective division of the Lamar-McNeese State dual to pace the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals.

Shaw, a junior from Wellington New Zealand, was the top finisher in the Lamar-McNeese dual meet on Thursday, finishing the four-mile run in 20:44, 45 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Jake Champagne, also of Lamar. His time was 2:28 faster than the top runner from McNeese, and helped the Cardinals claim the top seven spots in the race.

John, a senior from Iowa, La., was the top finisher in the Lamar-McNeese dual meet on Thursday, finishing the two-mile run in 20:44, seven seconds ahead of second-place finisher Amanda King. Her finishing time was 5:03 faster than the top finisher from McNeese, and helped LU sweep the top six spots.

The Cardinals will be in action again on September 17 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., when they participate in the Crimson Classic at the University of Alabama.
