Lamar Cross Country Heads to Alabama for Crimson Classic

BEAUMONT, Texas - After an impressive performance in their first competition of the season, the Lamar men's and women's cross country teams head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Crimson Classic, their second competition of the 2005 season.

The men get things started with an eight kilometer run at 9 a.m., while the women will start a five kilometer jaunt at 9:45 a.m.

"We had a good start to the season with McNeese, now we need to pick it back up at Alabama," said Lamar cross country coach Sita Waru. "We need to continue to get better as the season goes on, and this meet will tell us a lot about where we are so far. There will be some really good competition there, and it will be a good challenge."

In their first competition of the year, the Lamar men On the men's side, the Cardinals posted the top seven times in the four-mile run, led by Danny Shaw who completed the jaunt in 20:44. Jake Champagne and Ben McBride took second and third with times of 21:29 and 21:41, while Martin Husen grabbed fourth with a 22:35 finish. Rounding out the group of Cardinals was Hamish Meacheam and Michael Goeddertz who finished in 22:50 and 22:58 respectively.

The Lady Cardinals were also very successful in their opening were led by Jacqueline John who completed the two mile run in 11:33, followed closely by Amanda King and Stacey Monteau who finished in 11:40 and 11:47 respectively. Natasha Williams finished fourth for Lamar crossing the finish line in 12:08 while Sara Weir and Amber Prather rounded out the top six finishers in 12:12 and 12:55.
