Cardinals compete at Pre-National Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Matt Johnsen was the top men's finisher, and Claire Miles led the way for the women as the Lamar cross country teams ran at the Pre-National Invitational at "Tom" Sawyer State Park. Johnsen completed the 8,000 meter course with a time of 23:54.8 to pace the Cards, who placed 18th in the Red race, which featured a number of teams ranked among the nation's top 25. Sam Stabler was the only other LU runner in the top 100 of the 272-person race, finishing 72nd with a time of 24:15.4. Collectively, Lamar placed 18th in the event with a score of 517. Colorado won the event, placing three in the top 15 and finishing with a score of 72. Joe Wade ran the event in 24:30.2 to finish 102nd, and Chris Jones wasn't that far behind, finishing 132nd with a time of 24:43.3. Stu Huntington rounded out the scorers for the men, ending 178th with a time of 25:05.9. Alex De La Garza and Ryan Creech finished 187th and 218th, respectively, with times of 25:08.0 and 25:29.5. On the women's side, the Lady Cards scored 381 to finish 14th in the 6,000-meter Black race. Claire Miles was the top LU finisher, placing 29th with a time of 22:13.0. Becky Gough was just seconds off her pace, coming in 31st place with a time of 22:15.8.
Angela LaBorde and Kaitlynn Warren were also top 100 finishers in the 179-runner event, with LaBorde ending 88th at 23:05.7 and Warren clocking in 90th at 23:07.0. Nora-Beth Saunders had a time of 23:37.7 to come in 128th, and Kim Campbell was 170th at 26:09.6. #GoCards |
