Cardinal Cross Country Sweeps Weekly Honors from Southland Conference for Second Time
Oct. 25, 2005 BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University swept the Aeropostale athlete of the week honors for the second time in the 2005 season, as Danny Shaw and Renee Graham each won their respective division of the Northwestern State All Comers, to pace the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals to first place team finishes. It was the second time this season two Lamar runners were named athlete of the week, Shaw and Jacqueline John grabbed the honors in week one. Shaw, a junior from Wellington New Zealand, was the top overall finisher at NSU, helping LU to their second first place finish of the season. He won the 6,000 meter race in 19:15, 34 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Graham, a sophomore from Hawera, New Zealand, led the way for the Lady Cardinals, who took first place at the NSU Invitational, finishing the 4,000 meter race in 14:23, 15 seconds ahead of second place finisher Amanda King of Lamar. Graham's first place finish paced the Lady Cardinals to a sweep of the top seven spots in the race, and helped her to her first athlete of the week honor this season. It was also the third time this season Graham has been the top finisher for the Lamar women. The Cardinals will be in action again on October 31 in Natchitoches, La., when they participate in the Southland Conference cross country championships.
