The Lamar University men's cross country team placed fourth, while the LU women's cross country team placed seventh at the NCAA South Central Regionals on Saturday.
The LU men were led by Matt Johnsen, who finished eighth in a time of 30 minutes, 57.1 seconds for 10 kilometers at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. Johnsen received an at-large berth into the upcoming NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
As a team, Lamar finished with 93 points, placing behind Texas (40) Texas A&M (56) and Arkansas (65) in the 17-team field. Southland Conference rival UTSA was fifth with 196 points. Henry Lelei of Texas A&M won the individual race in 30:09.4.
Other top finishers for Lamar were Tom Wade in 16th place, Bob Ahimbisibwe in 19th place, Joe Wade in 26th and Anthony Pequeno in 29th.
In the women's race, the Lady Cardinals were the top finisher from the Southland Conference. Lamar had 272 points, just ahead of Southland foe UTSA, which had 275 points. Arkansas won the team title in the 23-team field with 49 points. Texas was second with 69 points.
Sam Walkow was Lamar's top finisher, placing 39th in 22:19.6 for six kilometers. Taylor Cloy of Lamar was 48th.
