Lejon Wright Sr. joined the Lamar University women's basketball coaching staff in June 2014.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Wright came to Lamar from Pratt Community College in Kansas, where he was an assistant coach for the 2013-14 season, helping the squad post a 20-11 record, its best mark in 13 years.

He previously served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Navarro College and as head girls basketball coach at Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, Texas. He also spent three years as head coach of the DFW ELITE Girls Basketball Club in Dallas. He has numerous contacts throughout Texas in AAU basketball.

Coaching runs in the Wright family. Lejon's father, Robert, is an assistant coach of the men's basketball team at TCU.

A standout athlete at Eastern Hills High School, Wright attended Trinidad State Junior College in Colorado on a full basketball scholarship before earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He is completing his requirements for a master's degree in education from Concordia University.

Wright was a standout track performer as well, winning the national 18-and-under AAU title in the 4x100 relay.

Wright resides in Beaumont.
