CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Kalis Loyd's sixth double-double of the season and 24th of her career powered the Lamar Lady Cardinals to a 68-46 win over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a Southland Conference women's basketball game Thursday.
Loyd had 21 points and 11 rebounds to go along with six assists as the Lady Cardinals (15-6 overall, 8-3 Southland) ran their winning streak to three games.
Loyd wasn't the only Lady Cardinal to have a stellar effort against the Islanders (1-20, 0-10). Alice Robinson had nine points and seven rebounds, while Jasmin Henderson came off the bench to add eight points and seven rebounds.
"I thought we played well defensively," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "We held them to about 28 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers."
The Lady Cardinals led 32-17 at halftime and were never threatened in the second half.
Ashley Darley had 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for the Islanders (1-20 overall, 0-10 Southland), who have lost 11 in a row. Jessica Jammer added nine points for A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Lady Cardinals return to action at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at conference-leading Sam Houston State. That game will air live on KLVI (AM 560) and simulcast on www.LamarCardinals.com. After that, the Lady Cardinals open a five-game homestand with a non-conference game against Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
