BEAUMONT, Texas - Ang Green keyed a second-half rally to lead the Lamar University women's basketball team to a 56-50 Southland Conference victory over visiting Texas State on Wednesday.
Green scored 10 points, all in the second half, as Lamar (16-13 overall, 8-7 Southland) rallied from a 12-point deficit to move into fifth place in the conference standings. Green also added five rebounds and two steals to the winning cause while going 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.
"My job is to come off the bench and give the team a spark and help us win," Green said. Coming back and winning tonight was definitely a big thing."
Kalis Loyd led Lamar with 20 points, netting 10 in each half, as the Lady Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak and ensured themselves of a fifth consecutive winning season.
Lamar trailed 39-27 with 15:54 remaining in the second half before going on an 11-1 run to cut Texas State's lead to 40-38 with 10:01 remaining.
Lamar took the lead for good on a Monique Whittaker layup with 2:28 remaining that gave the Lady Cardinals a 49-48 edge. Green sealed the win with three free throws in the final 25 seconds.
"Once we decided to attack the rim and get to the free-throw line, it turned things around for us. That's what won the game," said Lamar coach Larry Tidwell, who recorded his 106th career win, moving him closer to the Lamar record of 109 held by Pat Park. The people who are going to be in the Southland Conference Tournament next week don't want to play us."
Diamond Ford led Texas State (16-12, 8-7) with 15 points.
