BEAUMONT, Texas - Kalis Loyd's 19th career double-double powered the Lamar Lady Cardinals to an 87-42 win over visiting UT Tyler in a non-conference women's basketball game at the Montagne Center on Monday night.
Loyd had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Cardinals (1-1), who bounced back from an 80-34 loss at defending national champion Baylor on Friday.
"We weren't worried about a letdown after Baylor," Loyd said. "They are the best team in the country. We just had to come out and play our game."
Lamar never trailed in the game, leading 46-25 at halftime before outscoring the Patriots 41-17 after intermission. Twelve Lady Cardinals scored at least two points in the game.
"I think this builds our confidence," Tidwell said. "We did some good things. We moved the ball quickly. It was a conditioning drill at times."
Gia Ayers and Taylor Hays had 12 points apiece for Lamar, while Caroline Adesulu added 10 points. The Lady Cardinals forced the Patriots into 29 turnovers and held a 50-37 rebounding edge over the Patriots.
The win extended Lamar's non-conference winning streak at the Montagne Center to 34 games.
"We're proud of that streak," Loyd said. "We want to keep that going."
Lamar gets a chance to extend the streak to 35 games when it hosts Centenary at 7 p.m. Thursday. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715, or visit www.LamarCardinals.com.
