BEAUMONT, Texas – Kalis Loyd’s third double-double of the season led a balanced scoring attack as the Lamar Lady Cardinals rolled to an 89-66 win over Our Lady of the Lake in a non-conference women’s basketball game at the Montagne Center on Monday.

Loyd had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead five Lamar players in double figures as the Lady Cardinals won their 36th straight non-conference game at the Montagne Center. Loyd’s double-double was the 21st of her career.

Shauna Long had 14 points for Lamar (5-1), while Dominique Edwards and Taylor Hays had 13 points apiece and Gia Ayers chipped in with 12 points. Edwards also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds.

“We had a balanced attack tonight,” Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. “We have a lot of players who can score, and I think we showed that.”

The Lady Cardinals drained 15 3-pointers on the game, just one shy of the school record. Long had four treys to lead the LU long-distance barrage, while Hays added three. The Lady Cardinals were 15-of-37 (40.5 percent) for the game.

“”I don’t mind us taking that many 3-pointers when we’re getting good looks,” Tidwell said. “I only get upset when we rush the shot. We didn’t do that tonight.”

Chelsea Solis led Our Lady of the Lake with 12 points, while Sam Offord added 10. The Saints, who are members of the NAIA, were 5-0 heading into the game, but counted the game as an exhibition contest. Our Lady of the Lake posted wins over Incarnate Word and Texas-Pan American this season.

“We beat a good team tonight,” Tidwell said. “They have some talent on that squad.”

Lamar returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday with a non-conference game at Texas Tech. The Lady Cards will have a break for exams after that before hosting Northwood at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Montagne Center.
