Lady Cardinals look to remain unbeaten in conference

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals look to remain unbeaten in Southland Conference play as they open a three-game homestand by hosting Southeastern Louisiana at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Lamar (9-3 overall, 2-0 Southland) is looking to go 3-0 in the conference for the first time since 2009-10, a season that saw Lamar win the Southland's regular-season and tournament championships. Kalis Loyd leads Lamar in scoring at 18.2 points per game and in rebounding at 7.0 per game. Loyd, who has been Lamar's leading scorer in every game this season, enters Monday's game with 1,649 career points, just 81 behind Uirannah Jackson's school record of 1,730 points.

Southeastern Louisiana (7-6, 0-2) opened Southland play by dropping home decisions to Oral Roberts and Central Arkansas. Aja Gibson leads the Lady Lions in scoring at 11.5 points per game. Brandi Simmons averages 10.3 points and a team-best 9.4 rebounds per game for the Lady Lions. Southeastern Louisiana leads the overall series 18-14. The teams split two games last season, with the road team winning each time. Monday's game is the opener of a hoops doubleheader at the Montagne Center. The Lamar men meet Southeastern Louisiana at 7:#0 p.m. The Lady Cardinals continue their homestand by hosting Sam Houston State at 5:#0 p.m. Thursday before welcoming Texas A&M-Corpuys Christi at 4 p.m. Saturday.
