BEAUMONT, Texas -The Lamar Lady Cardinals look to run their Southland Conference women's basketball winning streak to three games when they host McNeese State at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Montagne Center.

The Lady Cardinals (7-7 overall, 2-1 Southland) posted an 82-68 win over Nicholls at the Montagne Center on Thursday, as five players scored in double figures for Lamar. McNeese State (9-5, 2-1) also carries a two-game winning streak into Saturday's contest. The Cowgirls were 59-55 winners at Sam Houston State on Thursday.

Loyd's double-double not enough for Lady Cards
Kalis Loyd's seventh double-double of the season and 5th of her career wasn't enough for the Lamar Lady Cardinals in a 65-46 loss to the McNeese State Cowgirls in a Southland Conference women's basketball game Saturday.

"We bounced back after a tough loss to Stephen F. Austin in our conference opener," Lamar coach Robin Harmony said. "We have to keep the momentum going.  We can be near the top of the conference after Saturday, or we can go back to being .500"

Dominique Edwards continues to lead Lamar in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Gia Ayers (12.7 ppg), JaMeisha Edwards (11.2 ppg) and Shauna Long (10.9 ppg) also average in double figures for the Lady Cardinals. Ayers leads the Southland Confer3ence in assists, averaging 4.79 helpers per outing.

McNeese State is led by Allison Baggett, who averages 18.8 points per game. Cecilia Okoye chips in 11.9 points per contest for the Cowgirls.

McNeese State leads the overall series 39-26. The teams split the two-game season series last year, with the road team winning both times.

Saturday's game is the opening act of a doubleheader, with the Lamar men meeting McNeese State in the nightcap. Saturday is Military Appreciation Day, with all military personnel receiving free admission with a valid ID card. Fans attending the doubleheader will receive a free koozie, courtesy of Philpott Motors.
