Lady Cardinals head to McNeese State on Saturday

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals look to maintain a share of first place in the Southland Conference when they travel to McNeese State to take on the Cowgirls at 1 p.m. Saturday in Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, La. Lamar (11-4 overall, 4-1 Southland) is in a four-way tie with Central Arkansas, Sam Houston State and Oral Roberts atop the conference standings. McNeese State (8-8, 3-2) is tied with Nicholls for fifth place, just one game behind the leaders.

Lamar's Kalis Loyd is tied for second in the conference in scoring at 18.6 points per game, just behind McNeese State's Ashlyn Baggett at 18.7 points per game. Loyd also leads Lamar in rebounding at 6.9 per game and in steals with 36. McNeese State leads the overall series 38-25, and has won the last four meetings between the two teams. Lamar's last win came on Jan. 16, 2010 with a 67-65 victory at McNeese State, the year the Lady Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Tournament. "It's a great rivalry," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "We go after each other hard on the court. It's usually a great game, and Saturday should be no different." Saturday's game will be aired live on KLVI (AM 560) and simulcast on www.LamarCardinals.com. The contest is the opener of a basketball doubleheader, with the Lamar men taking on McNeese State in the 3 p.m. nightcap. Saturday's game is the opener of a three-game road swing for Lamar. The Lady Cardinals will be at Oral Roberts on Jan. 24 and at Central Arkansas on Jan. 26 before returning home to host Northwestern State at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 31. #LUhoops
