Lady Cards visit UCA in second-place showdown

CONWAY, Ark. - Kalis Loyd will attempt to become the leading scorer in Lamar University women's basketball history when the Lady Cardinals meet Central Arkansas at 2 p.m. Saturday in a Southland Conference game. The senior guard from Malmoe, Sweden, enters the game with 1,724 points, just six behind Uirannah Jackson's record of 1,730 points. Loyd leads Lamar in scoring at 18.3 points per game this season, and has scored in double digits in every contest she has played this campaign.

The game also has big ramifications on the Southland Conference standings. Lamar (12-5 overall, 5-2 Southland) is tied with Central Arkansas (12-6, 5-2) and Oral Roberts for second place3 in the conference, one game behind Sam Houston State. Lamar and Central Arkansas are coming off of losses on Thursday. The Lady Cardinals dropped a 77-48 decision at Oral Roberts, while Central Arkansas suffered a 77-61 loss on its home floor to McNeese State. Megan Herbert leads Central Arkansas in scoring at 18.4 points per game, and in rebounding at 11.1 per game. Courtney Deuver adds 13.1 points per game to the Sugar Bears' attack. Lamar leads the overall series 6-5, but Central Arkansas has won the last three meetings. Saturdays game will be aired live on KLVI (AM 560), and can also be heard at www.LamarCardinals.com. Following the Central Arkansas game, the Lady Cardinals return home for a pair of Southland Conference games. Lamar hosts Northwestern State at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Stephen F.
