Loyd leads Lady Cardinals over SFA
Kalis Loyd poured in a season-high 28 points to lead the Lamar Lady Cardinals to a 65-50 win over host Stephen F. Austin in the Southland Conference women's basketball opener for both teams Thursday.
Stephen F. Austin (9-11, 4-5) is tied with Nicholls for sixth place in the 10-team conference. The top eight teams qualify for next month's Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas. The top two teams receive byes into the semifinals. The third- and fourth-place teams receive a first-round bye. Teams seeded fifth through eights would need to win four games in four days to claim the tournament championship.

Kalis Loyd leads Lamar in scoring (18.0) and rebounding (7.1). Loyd, who became Lamar's all-time leading scorer last week, was held to just six points in the win over Northwestern State, the first time this season she did not score in double digits.
Stephen F. Austin dropped a 66-60 decision at McNeese State on Wednesday. The Ladyjacks are led by Porsha Roberts, who averages 13.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
