Lady Cards Host UCA Thursday at 7 p.m.

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's basketball team looks to snap a four game skid on Thursday, hosting the University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears at 7 p.m. at the Montagne Center.

Lamar faces UCA for just the second time in the two schools history on Thursday, with UCA holding a 1-0 advantage in the win column. The last time the two teams met, UCA earned their first ever Southland Conference victory, taking down the Lady Cards 74-71 in overtime in Conway, Ark.

The Lady Cardinals enter the game with a 9-14 overall record and a 4-6 mark in Southland Conference play, on the heels of a 69-60 loss to Texas State on Saturday. The Lady Cards are looking to snap a four game losing streak, and a two game home-skid.

Lamar is led by senior Dionne Pounds who is averaging 15.7 points per game, while freshman Brittney Williams is averaging 14.4 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds. LaToya Carson and Alexis Timpone are averaging 13 and 7.4 points per game, while junior Shaquita Coffey is averaging 6.2 points.

In conference play Williams is averaging 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while Pounds is averaging 17.4 points per contest. Carson is averaging 11.7 and eight points per game.

As a team the Lady Cards are averaging 63.3 points per contest, while shooting .416 from the field. Lamar is shooting at a .361 average from behind the three point arc, and is shooting .686 from the free throw line. They have also been out rebounded by their opponents 38.2 to 37.7 per game.
 

 

Central Arkansas enters Thursday's contest with a 10-13 overall record and a 4-7 record in Southland Conference play. The Sugar Bears have posted a 2-8 record on the road.

UCA is led by Caronica Randle's 18.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while Renita Dobbins is chipping in with 9.1 points per contest.

As a team Texas State has out scored their opponents 65.1 to 58.0, while winning the rebounding battle 39.3 to 36.7 while shooting .407 from the field. The Bobcats shoot .287 from three point land and .642 from the free throw line.

After Thursday's showdown with the Sugar Bears, the Lady Cardinals will face another critical test in SLC East play, as they host the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Saturday at 7 p.m.
