BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Lady Cardinals look to stay in the hunt for the Southland Conference regular-season championship as they host the Nicholls Colonels at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Montagne Center.

Lamar (17-7 overall, 9-3 Southland) is tied for second place with Sam Houston State, a half-game behind Oral Roberts, which is 10-4. Lamar and Sam Houston State have five games remaining, Oral Roberts has four remaining.

Lady Cardinals shine against Nicholls
All five starters scored in double figures to lead the Lamar Lady Cardinals to a 70-52 win over visiting Nicholls in a Southland Conference women's basketball game Saturday.

Lamar had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 65-46 loss to McNeese State on Saturday. Nicholls (16-8, 8-5) brings a four-game winning streak into Tuesday's contest.

Kalis Loyd leads Lamar in scoring (17.3) and rebounding (7.4). Loyd had her seventh double-double of the season and 25th of her career in the loss to McNeese State, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Alisha Allen leads Nicholls in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (5.9). KK Babin averages 12.8 points and contributes 4.9 assists per outing.

Lamar leads the overall series with Nicholls 18-13. The Lady Cardinals are 7-1 against the Colonels since Larry Tidwell took over the reins at Lamar. The teams split last season's contests, with each time winning on its home floor.

Today's game is the third of a five-game homestand for Lamar. After tonight, the Lady Cardinals are idle until Feb. 28 when they host Central Arkansas before closing out the home portion of the regular season by welcoming Oral Roberts on March 2.

Lamar finishes the regular season on the road by venturing to Nicholls on March 7 and Southeastern Louisiana on March 9. The Southland Conference Tournament is set for March 13-16 in Katy, Texas.

The top two finishers in the conference will get byes into the semifinals, while the third- and fourth-place teams get a bye into the second round. The tourney opens March 13 with the No. 8 seed meeting the No. 5 seed and the sixth seed squaring off with the seventh seed. The winners of those games would play the No.3 and 4 seeds on March 14. The semis are March 15, with the title game on March 16.
