BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University women's basketball team opens up a three-game homestand to close the regular season by hosting Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Montagne Center.

The game will be televised by the Southland Conference Network, and be shown locally on KUIL (Channel 12.3 over the air; Channel 15 on Time-Warner Cable; Channel 43 on DirecTV).

Lamar (15-12 overall, 7-6 Southland Conference) looks to improve its seeding for next month's conference tournament in Katy, Texas. The Lady Cardinals enter the weekend tied with Texas State for fifth place in the overall conference standings.

Kalis Loyd leads Lamar in scoring (15.8), rebounding (6.3), assists (75), steals (57) and minutes played (839). Loyd is sixth on Lamar's all-time scoring list with 1,358 points, and has a chance of moving into fourth place tonight. Barbara Hickey is fifth with 1,370 points, while Travesa Gant is fourth with 1,372 points.

Lamar's Carenn Baylor is coming off a career game in the loss at Stephen F. Austin with career highs of 14 points and nine rebounds.

Sam Houston State (14-10, 9-4) rolled to an 80-64 home victory over Northwestern State on Wednesday. Britni Martin leads the Bearkats in scoring at 16.8 points per game, while Sequeena Thomas averages 14.0 points and 11.9 rebounds per contest.

Lamar has a 26-22 lead in the overall series that started in the 1970-71 season. Last season, Lamar posted a 99-88 victory at Sam Houston State in the only meeting of the campaign.

Saturday's game is Little Dribblers Night, with all youth basketball players up to eighth grade admitted for free when they wear their team uniform. Tickets for accompanying adults will be available for only $5. There will be an autograph session with the Lady Cardinals players after the game.

After Saturday's game, Lamar hosts Texas State at 7 p.m. Wednesday before welcoming McNeese State at 1 p.m. March 3 to close the regular season.
