Lady Cardinals fall to Oral Roberts
Kalis Loyd kept her double-digit scoring streak alive Thursday, but it wasn't nearly enough for the Lamar Lady Cardinals in a 77-48 loss to Oral Roberts in a Southland Conference women's basketball game.

"We just have to win our games and not worry about what the other teams do," Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. "Right now, we are focused on Oral Roberts and taking it one game at a time."

The Lady Cardinals have won seven of their last eight games, including a 76-53 win over Central Arkansas on Thursday night. Oral Roberts had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 76-71 loss to McNeese State on Thursday.

Lamar leads the Southland Conference in defense, allowing 54.5 points per game, while Oral Roberts is the top scoring team in the conference, averaging 69.9 points per game.

"Oral Roberts is a dangerous team," Tidwell said. "They have a cast of top-notch shooters."

Oral Roberts is led by senior guard Kevi Luper, who leads the Southland Conference in scoring at 19.2 points per game. Jaci Bigham adds 12.6 points per game and dishes out an average of 7.1 assists per game.

Kalis Loyd leads Lamar in scoring (17.5) and rebounding (7.4). Carenn Baylor and Dominque Edwards average 8.4 points per game apiece for the Lady Cardinals.

Saturday's game is the first contest of a hoops doubleheader at the Montagne Center. The Lamar men take on Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. There will be plenty of pomp and circumstance Saturday. Both Lamar teams will honor their seniors on Senior Day. In addition, retiring Lamar President Dr. Jimmy Simmons and his wife, Susan, will be honored at halftime of the men's game. There will be a reception after the men's game allowing fans to thank Dr. Simmons and his wife for their contributions to Lamar over the years.

Tickets for Saturday's doubleheader are available for just $1 at the Montagne Center ticket office. For more information, call (409) 880-1715, or visit www.LamarCardinals.com.
