BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University women's basketball team hosts McNeese State at 1 p.m. Saturday in the final regular-season game of the year. The contest is the opener of a hoops doubleheader at the Montagne Center, with the Lamar men facing McNeese State in the 3:30 p.m. nightcap.

The Lady Cardinals (16-13 overall, 8-7 Southland Conference) would clinch the No. 5 seed in next week's conference tournament with a victory. With a loss, Lamar would be seeded anywhere from fifth to seventh depending on the outcome of other contests Saturday.

Kalis Loyd leads Lamar in scoring (16.1), rebounding (6.4), assists (80), steals (61) and minutes played. She is the only player in program history to be ranked in the top 10 in points, rebounds, assists and steals.

McNeese State (22-7, 12-3) has locked up the No. seed for the conference tourney. The Cowgirls bring a five-game winning streak into Saturday's contest. McNeese State is led by Ashlyn Baggett, who averages 15.9 points per game, and her twin, Caitlyn Baggett, who averages 14.0 ppg to go along with her 122 assists.

McNeese State leads the overall series 37-25. The Cowgirls have won the last three meetings, including a 58-45 victory earlier this season at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, La.

Following Saturday's game, the Lady Cardinals leave Monday for Katy, Texas, the site of this year's Southland Conference Tournament. Pairing and game times for Tuesday's first round will be announced later today. The semifinals are set for Thursday afternoon, with the championship game slated for 7 p.m. Friday. The winner of the Southland tourney gets an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
