BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University junior Kalis Loyd was named to the Southland Conference's all-conference women's basketball team, the league announced Monday.

It's the second consecutive season Loyd earned first-team honors. She earned third-team status as a freshman. The junior guard/forward from Malmoe, Sweden, leads Lamar in scoring (15.8 ppg), rebounding (6.4), assists (81), steals (64) and minutes played (941).

Loyd is the only Lady Cardinal ranked in the top 10 on the program's all-time lists for points, rebounds, assists and steals. She is fourth in points (1,404), eighth in rebounds (615), fourth in assists (278) and second in steals (207).

Loyd and the Lady Cardinals look for their second Southland Conference Tournament championship in three seasons this week as they compete in the tourney that gets under way Tuesday at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

Lamar (16-14 overall, 8-8 Southland) is seeded fifth for the tourney. The Lady Cardinals take on fourth-seeded Stephen F. Austin (21-8, 11-5), the No. 4 seed, at 8:30 p.m. Lamar has won at least one tournament game in each of its first four seasons under coach Larry Tidwell.

"We have some unfinished business," Tidwell said of the tournament. "If we play our game, I think we can make a deep run."

Lamar senior guard Ang Green looks to play in her 123rd game, which would tie her for second with Brittney Williams on Lamar's all-time list. Trashanna Smith holds the Lamar record with 126 games played.

Stephen F. Austin leads the overall series 48-9, including a 61-51 home victory over Lamar earlier this season. The Ladyjacks are led by guard Tammara Marion, a second-team all-conference selection. Marion averages 15.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Stephen F. Austin also boasts of the conference's Newcomer of the Year in Ashlee Mells and Freshman of the Year in Porsha Roberts. Mells, a junior transfer from Indiana, averages 6.4 points per game for SFA. Roberts is second on the team in scoring at 8.6 ppg, and is second in rebounding (6.0).

This is the fifth time Lamar and Stephen F. Austin will meet in the Southland tourney. All four previous meetings have been first-round contests as well, with each team winning twice.

The winner of the Lamar-Stephen F. Austin game would meet the winner of Tuesday's 6 p.m. contest between No. 8 Nicholls and top-seeded Central Arkansas at 2:33 p.m. Thursday. The championship game is set for 7:05 p.m. Friday.

All of Lamar's games will be broadcast live on KLVI (AM 560) and simulcast on LamarCardinals.com. The semifinals and finals will be televised on the Southland Conference Network.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and at the Merrell Center box office.
