BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University women's basketball team is preparing to face West Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Austin, Texas.
The Lady Cardinals will practice daily through Friday at the Montagne Center before departing for Austin by bus at approximately 4 p.m. Friday.
Lamar (26-7) will be making its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The first came in 1991, when the Lady Cardinals advanced to the Elite Eight.
West Virginia (28-5) is a No. 3 seed. The Mountaineers went 13-3 in the Big East. Two of West Virginia's losses were to undefeated and No. 1 Connecticut, including a 60-32 loss in the Big East championship game.
Liz Repella leads the Mountaineers in scoring at 13.8 ppg. Korinne Campbell averages 10.8 points and a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game.
The winner of Sunday's game will meet the winner of Sunday's earlier game between sixth-seeded Texas and 11th-seeded San Diego State at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Lamar has a limited number of tickets for Sunday's first round games. The tickets are $20 apiece and are available at the Montagne Center box office or by calling (409) 880-1715. The tickets are available on a first-come first-served basis.
Sunday's game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and broadcast locally on KLVI (AM 560).
