Lady Cardinals Basketball Signs Two

May 22, 2008

BEAUMONT - Ang Green of Silsbee High School and Darika Hill of Trinity Valley Community College have signed letters of intent with Lamar University to continue their education and play basketball for the Lady Cardinals, announced head coach Larry Tidwell Thursday afternoon.

Green, a 5-8 combo guard, comes to Lamar after a stellar four-year career at Silsbee where she averaged 26.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game as a senior. She earned class 3A TABC, class 3A TGCA and Texas Basketball Magazine All-State honors while also earning district 21-3A most valuable player honors.

Green scored 2,395 points during her high school career while leading the Tigers to three district championships. She has been equally as impressive in the classroom, being named TGCA Academic All State and been on the honor roll all four years.

"Ang could be the steal of the century for the Lady Cardinals basketball program," Tidwell said. "To sign someone of her talent in the spring signing period is amazing. She can shoot the ball from deep, separate from the defense and get to the basket and could be one of the best perimeter defenders Lamar has seen in a long time. She's also an excellent student and will be very strong in the classroom."

Hill, a 6-0 forward who is originally from New Iberia, La., comes to Lamar after earning third team Junior College All-American honors at Trinity Valley Community College this past season. She averaged 14.8 points and seven rebounds per game while shooting at a 44 percent clip form the field and 37.8 percent from behind the three point arc.

"Darika is a multi-talented athlete who shoots well from the perimeter, but can also post you up inside," Tidwell said. "She will bring a lot of weapons to the table for us next year and she's very intense on defense."

Hill and Green join Kalis Loyd of Sweden, Whitney Coffey of Princeton High School and Chrisan Petrovanie of Lake Country Christian School who signed with the Lady Cardinals in the fall.
