BEAUMONT, Texas - Joey Wells, who had been associate head coach of the Lamar women's basketball team, is leaving Lamar to take a similar position at Indiana State.

Wells had been on coach Larry Tidwell's staff for each of Tidwell's five seasons at Lamar. During that time, the Lady Cardinals posted an overall record of 106-55 and earned berths in the NCAA Tournament and the postseason WNIT.

"It's been a great five years," Wells said. "I want to thank Coach Tidwell for giving me the opportunity to be a coach at the Division I level and further my career. This wouldn't have been possible without him."

Lamar has already started a national search for Wells' replacement.

"Joey has been a great friend and a great coach," Tidwell said. "He is going to a good team in a tremendous conference (the Missouri Valley Conference). We are definitely going to miss Joey, but it's a great opportunity for him."
