The inaugural Lady Cardinal Golf Tournament benefiting the Lamar University women's basketball program is set for Monday, September 17 at Brentwood Country Club.
The entry fee is $500 per team and includes green fees, cart, prizes, lunch and drinks on the course. Prizes will be awarded to first through sixth place teams, and special recognition prizes awarded to male and female longest drive, four closest to the pin winners, a hole-in-one contest along with other prize contests throughout the course. There will also be a pre-tournament silent auction full of great gifts and memorabilia.
The format is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Check-in will begin at 12 p.m. The field will be limited to the first 30 paid teams. Each participant in the tournament will receive a Lady Cardinal Basketball monogrammed and weatherproof pull-over. In case of rain, all entry fees will be donated to Lady Cardinal Basketball, and each participant will receive a coupon for a free round of golf at Brentwood CC.
The targeted financial goal for the women's basketball program is $100,000. The money raised will fund the Lady Cards locker room renovations, buy study hall computers, upgrade their academic facilities, buy laptops for academic use on road trips, strength and conditioning inventory, communications system and marketing and promotions.
"The golf tournament has got to have a large Lamar Cardinal turnout as it is essential to completing the locker room and academic court renovations," head coach Larry Tidwell said. "Likewise, the extra money will aide in recruiting, player and coach development strategies through video technology and will help bolster the academic success of our team."
Tournament entry forms as well as hole sponsorship forms can be found on the right hand side of the women's basketball page on the athletics website at www.lamarcardinals.com.
