Second Annual Lady Cardinal Golf Tournament Set For October 6

Aug. 26, 2008

BEAUMONT, Texas - The second Annual Lamar Lady Cardinal Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Monday, October 6 at The Palms Golf Course in Port Arthur, Texas. All proceeds from the tournament will go towards Maintaining Academic Excellence in the Lamar University women's basketball program.

"We've made a very strong commitment to raising the bar in our academics," said Head Coach Larry Tidwell. "Our excellent grades this past summer provide proof that the Lady Cardinals are very serious about achieving success in the classroom. We had three student athletes graduate this past year with Dionne Pounds, Shaquita Coffey, and Aida Bakhos and none would have been able to graduate on time if it was not for their summer school sessions. That is what this tournament is all about, providing the finishing touches that lead to on-time graduation."

The entry fee is $500 per team, with an option of playing an 8:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. tee time with only 25 teams per flight allowed, and includes green fees, cart, lunch, and beverages on the course. Each participant will receive tournament gifts that include Lamar gear, golf balls, golf towels, and koozies. Awards will be presented to the first three team places in each flight with prizes also going to male & female longest drives and four different closest to the pin contests. Likewise, a hole-in-one contest will be sponsored by Philpott Motors - Bob Thewman.

The format is a four person scramble and tournament directors David Ess, Greg Hulet, Manuel Orta, Eric & Jennifer Harris, Johnny Montagne, David Johnston, Shawn Bruno, Red Keene, and Ray Nelson promise a great day of Food, Fun, and Fellowship.

A big time silent sports auction will also available throughout the day. Silent auction items include autographed basketballs by legends John Wooden, Oscar Robertson, Lute Olson, and the Harlem Globetrotters as well as trips to Astros, Texans, and Rockets games.

Hole sponsorships are available at $100 each and provide valuable assets to the tournament as well as showcasing your business to many possible clients. Culligan's Mulligans are also available once again at the check in table at $10 each or 3 for $20.

"This tournament has proven to be a huge success in our drive to Achieve and Maintain Academic Excellence," added Tidwell." "Without the financial support of Bryan & Shawna Walsh, Southeast Texas Water - Henry Strait, Lone Star Rigging - Chris Richardson & David Ess, Caprock Pipe & Supply - Ronnie Becknell, Interstate Batteries - Terry Thach, Reebok - Rueben Rice, Alan Powers, Ron Johnston, Tim Edgmon and Cotton Cargo, this event would not be possible. Likewise, the hard work of the Lamar marketing program is much appreciated as Brad McGowan, Miranda Biehle, Hamish Meacheam, and Rosie Connley go above and beyond the call of duty in making this tournament first class."

Tournament entry forms can be found on the www.lamarcardinals.com website and for more information, please contact Tidwell at 409-880-2238.
