BEAUMONT, Texas - For one day, the Lamar University basketball teams and their supporters will be thinking of chip shots and driving the green rather than jump shots and driving the lane.

The teams are making final preparations for the annual Lamar Cardinals Basketball Academic Excellence Golf Tournament set for Sept. 16 at the Beaumont Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament will help cover the cost of summer-school expenses for student-athletes from both teams.

The cost of $125 per player includes golf, cart, lunch, beverages and gifts including Lamar gear, golf balls and golf towels. Three will be awards for the top three teams in each of two flights, men's and women's longest-drive contests, four closest-to-the-pin contests and a hole-in-one contest.

In addition, there will be a silent auction with such items as autographed sports memorabilia, professional sports tickets, Lamar gear and trips. The first flight is scheduled for 8 a.m., with the second flight set for 1:30 p.m. Hole sponsorships are also available.

For information, call Cindy Hall at (409) 880-8301 or email her at cynthia.hall@lamar.edu.

Registration forms are available online at www.LamarCardinals.com.
