BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University will host a women's basketball reunion the weekend of Feb. 15-16, 2013.
"It's going to be a big deal," Lamar women's basketball coach Larry Tidwell said of the reunion. "We've had 44 years of basketball here at Lamar, and it's time that we have a reunion for all of the people who have put on the red and white."
Lamar first fielded a women's basketball team in the 1969-70 season. That first squad, coached by Marilyn Krause, went 2-9. Lamar's first victory was a 38-31 victory over McNeese State. Lamar is 578-623 all-time, including a 5-2 record this season. Lamar has qualified for two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT Tournament in its history.
"I am trying to do everything I can to inject even more pride into our program," Tidwell said. "I want everybody to come back and be honored. I want to make it a special occasion because they are special. They are Lady Cardinals."
The weekend will open with a reception at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 in the Montagne Center's Cardinal Club room. The former players and coaches will be honored during halftime of the Lady Cardinals' game against McNeese State in the Montagne Center on Feb. 16. There is no cost for the events for former Lady Cardinals. Each attendee will receive two tickets to the 4 p.m. Feb. 16 game against McNeese State.
Former Lady Cardinals players, coaches and staff who wish to attend are asked to contact Michael Wilkinson at (409) 880-7677, or by email at email@example.com.
