BEAUMONT, Texas -
Lamar University sophomore guard Kalis Loyd was named Southland Conference Co-Player of the Week for women's basketball the conference announced Monday.
Loyd scored a career-high 34 points and matched a career best with six steals in Lamar's 86-83 win over Cal Poly in the consolation game of the ASUC Classic at Arizona State over the weekend. For her efforts, Loyd was named to the all-tournament team.
In three games last week, Loyd averaged 26.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Loyd shared the weekly honor with Tammara Marion of Stephen F. Austin, who averaged 26.5 points over two games.
Loyd is the second women's basketball player to be honored by the Southland Conference this season. Senior guard Jenna Plumley was named Player of the Week two weeks ago.
Lamar (6-3) returns to action at noon Tuesday when it hosts Southern University in the Montagne Center. The game is a matchup of two teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament last season. Southern won the Southwestern Athletic Conference last spring before losing to eventual NCAA champion UConn in the first round.
